BBC has announced the release of an upcoming documentary about Britney Spears. Even though there’s no release date as of now, “Britney” will be directed by a BAFTA-award winner.
According with Rolling Stone, BBC, the United Kingdom’s public broadcaster, will be launching its own documentary about Britney Spears, titled “Britney”. The program will be focused on the #FreeBritney movement as well as on the singer’s recent court appearances.
Journalist Mobeen Azhar – winner of a BAFTA award – will be the documentary’s director.
It is known that Azhar has traveled to Britney’s hometown (Kentwood) to Los Angeles and has interviewed people close to the singer as well as numerous fans:
– I went to L.A. in search of the truth of how Britney Spears, one of the biggest pop stars on the planet, ended up in a conservatorship, he said.
– I found myself in a world of lawyers, superfans, and paparazzi and spent time with many of the people who’ve had a front-row seat in Britney’s life. This film taps into the energy of the #FreeBritney movement and questions the industry, fandom, and the laws that facilitate conservatorships.
A premiere date has not yet been announced but is known it will air on BBC Two and will eventually be sold overseas.
To add onto the list, Netflix is also working on their own documentary about the singer’s situation.
